I agree.

I’m so tired of being cold. However, I realize that the warmer it gets, the less inclined I will be to actually study. Better that it stays cold for now.

I love yellow, I’m happy that the fashion illuminati finally sees it my way.

I miss brunches with my faction.

Why is everyone on earth pregnant? Makes me want to have another baby… sometimes… but not really… just occasionally… maybe.

Can’t wait until November 2008. The campaign for the Democratic nomination is bringing out all the worst qualities in everyone I know.

Why does this individual always want to know what I’m doing? I’m a perfectly harmless person. I am sitting here quietly, typing my thoughts. I am not EVER engaged in any illicit activites. Damn…. that shit makes me tired.

I return to class from a very unproductive Spring Break on Monday. I really enjoyed having absolutely nothing to read, comprehend, consider, decipher, brief, etc. My first year as a law student is almost at a close, and it seems that I may actually survive. I’m not sure about the student part… I’m no legal scholar, that’s for sure. BUT I do have a passion for the law, and I enjoy discussing it and applying my knowledge to situations.

I’ve also started thinking about my calling. What I want to do with my life, how I will leave a mark on the world. I think that I have the power to cause a shift in direction for someone else, and I want to pursue that. More on that at another time.

This reflection has caused me to think about my friendships, those who really value me and my love. I will probably end some relationships sooner than later. It’s very draining to care for those who show you by action or inaction that they don’t reciprocate your regard for them. I battle with this constantly, because those who I love, I want to keep near my heart… but it’s a two way street.

I am a very unforgiving person. I tend to carry the worst hurts with me always. I HAVE to work on that.

Looking forward to Kevin’s wedding and seeing my ace boon sandsy. New Orleans, here I come! I’m still mad that this trip is costing as much as my own wedding, but the short vacation will totally worth it.

Popular online PC game is causing marital discord.

Even though she’s never played the game, 28 year-old Jocelyn is one of the fallen. A well-spoken California resident, she divorced her husband of six years after he developed a crippling addiction to the smash online RPG.

“He would get home from work at 6:00, start playing at 6:30, and he’d play until three a.m. Weekends were worse — it was from morning straight through until the middle of the night,” she told Yahoo! Games in an interview. “It took away all of our time that we spent together. I ceased to exist in his life.”

Jocelyn had been friends with her ex-husband Peter since the age of 13, but it took only nine months for her marriage to collapse.

“I bought the game for him for Christmas 2004, when it first came out. By May we had our first serious discussion about where our marriage was going, and by September I had moved out,” she said.

Jocelyn recalled one particular incident that was typical of Peter’s habits. “I had set aside 30 minutes for us to watch a television show together, and he couldn’t. He was stuck on a raid, and completely failed to understand why I was upset,” she said.

Peter’s domestic duties also suffered. He stopped paying bills, she says, and refused to do his share of the housework.

Jocelyn doesn’t hesitate to cite Warcraft as the main reason for her divorce and remains emotional about its impact on her marriage. “I’m real, and you’re giving me up for a fantasy land. You’re destroying your life, your six-year marriage, and you’re giving it up for something that isn’t even real.”

Despite their differences, the couple remains friends, and although Peter still plays World of Warcraft, Jocelyn says he made an effort to cut down after their split.

A gamer herself, Jocelyn briefly worked for World of Warcraft developer Blizzard Entertainment, although not on the title that proved so damaging to her relationship. “I recognized that this was a game that would never end, and that’s why I chose not to play it,” she said.

“They build it in such a way that you have to keep putting more and more time into it to maintain your status. I remember thinking when I was married that it was downright exploitative to people who couldn’t control themselves in that way. It’s set up like a drug.”

Asked if she would consider marrying another Warcraft player, Jocelyn laughed. “That’s actually one of my primary criteria now — I don’t want to marry someone who is a gamer.”

So, I survived my first semester of law school… now I don’t know how I did, but I kind of don’t care at this point. The problem with grades in law school is that it all comes down to one effin exam. I worked really hard on my preparation, so now I’ll give it up to the Lord and the curve. What counts is, I learned a lot this fall, and I was very excited about finally embarking on this journey. There’s no stopping me, no matter what.

We took our family holiday picture (above) and after pitching a mini fit in Roosevelt Field, I finally got my Y chromosome carriers up there to cooperate and give me what I wanted… a decent photo of our little family. Hope you like it! (I had to threaten the kid with foster care.)

I finally got to celebrate my birthday with my friends at Loft and Opus. We had good food, quite a few drinks and enjoyed the sounds of Goldfinger… all in all, I couldn’t have asked for more! Loved it! Went to a party at my brother’s in-laws home. I can’t even get into it… but you know those parties that you see on holiday specials?… yeah, that was it. Just Gorgeous.

Hubby and I are preparing for Christmas. It’s going to be a quiet holiday for us this year… our very first Christmas with just the two of us. My mom and mini-me are in Florida, and DH’s family still lives in the Bay area. Last year all of us were at his parents’ for Christmas and by all of us, I mean like 20 people… so this year will be a huge contrast. We’re doing brunch at the GCH and a movie in quiet celebration of the holiday. (I haven’t seen a movie since August, so this is a big deal for me).

Max… if you’re reading this, I promise I will help if you have a New Year’s party! You too, Aisha!

Happy Christmas!

Yeah, it’s been quite a while. I never said that I was really a blogger, did I?

Three weeks left in the semester. I can hardly believe it… not that I only have three weeks left, but that I only have three weeks to study! I have loved almost every minute of school this semester… I really have learned so much and I am so honored that I am one of very few people that ever get to do this… but damn! Your world pretty much hinges on 1 test… ONE. The thought of a cumulative exam on all these effin latin terms swimming around in my brain is killing me… for real.

I’m suffering from the mother of ALL sore throats today, and I have a truckload of work to do. The husband has already caught the brunt of the restulting bad attitude. I’m really sorry for that… but I am of the belief that when a sick person tells you that she’s not well… you should believe her. We just celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary… and God’s not through with us yet.

My sugar… he’s great. Who knew that he was really so sweet? He got his first cavity… so mommy has assumed toothbrushing duties. What else… he was ringbearer in his uncle’s wedding… shot down the aisle like a bullet. The kid quit karate… but he’ll go back one day when he’s a little more focused. I have to go to a parent teacher conference for him next week for his progress report and all that. I think he is learning so much, his vocabulary is crazy! (“Mommy, do you have a doppelganger?”) BUT – sometimes, (and I hate to admit this) the faculty at his school bugs the CRAP out of me. My baby… well, he’s extremely sensitive, and he’s quite the perfectionist. When he feels like he is failing at something he gets VERY frustrated and emotional. So basically, I have to go there and listen to these folks tell me that it’s wrong for him to do that.

It’s a lot for me. I get really caught up in the fact that I am PAYING these people to continuously tell me that something is wrong with my kid when I don’t believe them. It’s not because I’m one of those crazy mommies who think their kid is just perfection. I’ve just always believed that people have a right to their feelings, right or wrong. He’s not excluded simply because he’s only five years old. As far as control, that comes with age. I’m known to let a few tears fall when I’m angry or frustrated as well… and hell, I’m grown.

Thanksgiving… yeah – I’m not cooking… for like, the first time in like 10 years. I ordered a fried turkey which should arrive fresh on Wednesday. I don’t feel guilty, I have lots of reading and writing to do.

My birthday is in 3 weeks… not freaking out, it’s just another day, really. It bites that it’s the last day of classes, though. Makes it hard for a chick to celebrate. I’ve been thinking about taking myself on a trip to someplace new over break. I really need a change of scenery. I’d really love to move, but I don’t think it’s a possibility right now… along with lots of other factors, I just have too much to do.

The life of a law student/mommy/wife, right?

Well it’s been a while, huh?

So what’s happened…

I started law school – and in spite of myself, I have to admit, I’m loving it! I am learning so much, and I actually understand and appreciate it all! Had a quiz yesterday in Civil Procedure, and aside from the momentary blanching after first seeing the question, I knocked it out! I really love torts and contracts, though. I guess I have a little edge b/c of the MBA, but there are lots of things that I didn’t know (imagine).

I did have to get a gang of shots for school. WTF? Some of these things are supposed to have been done within the last ten years. I would never have known that if not for school. My arm is still sore from that tetanus joint. Never mind the fact that they will probably kick my butt out anyway b/c my doctor’s office still hasn’t completed the form.

My sugar dumpling turned FIVE years old. I can barely breathe when I think about how fast he’s growing up. He walked into school on his own for the first time this year, and I swear I saw him morph into an adult right before my eyes as he approached the doors. *sigh* He has also discovered the key to wealth. He asked me why I go to school, so I told him that it was in order for us all to have a better life and to help some people along the way. He explained to me that one does not go to school to get rich… and I said “really… what should I do, baby?”
He said, “Mommy… just get some workers – that’s how you get rich!”

I wish I had known that years ago.

Went to a really awesome party and had lots of fun. Sometimes I forget what a fun chick I actually am. My kid thinks I’m a hot mom too… (the babies do wonders for your ego). I’ve been having a crisis, but recently I have found that for me, happiness is something you claim and I have chosen it.

Preparing for my brother’s platinum wedding this weekend. He’s finally marrying his princess. I’m thrilled for him… we’ve had our ups and downs but he definitely deserves a beautiful life. But back to me, I’ve got a killer gown and shoes and I’m ready for the runway! Thanks to my fashion consultants for helping me through my wardrobe crisis… shoes are a hell of a drug.

So, that’s it for me, it isn’t much, but it’s all I’ve got. I’m gonna try to do better, y’all. Really.

I just want to thank my wonderful legal eagle support system, for being my girlfriends in addition to being endless sources of knowledge and assurance. Also, a toast to my non-legal friends who never hesitated to cheer me on through this process.

Thanks to my husband for putting up with me and giving me his unconditional love and support this past year as I ventured out on this limb. Bless my mommy and auntie for PUSHING ( and I do mean that they are pushy) me to the heights.
